DINING

There are more than fifty restaurants in downtown Portsmouth within walking distance of the Sheraton. Portsmouth is a walking city, easily strollable day and night. The Seacoast Guide lists most of the best restaurants in the city, many of which feature al fresco dining.

SHOPPING

All but a very few of the shops in Portsmouth are locally owned and operated. There are close to one hundred unique shops and boutiques scattered among the restaurants and historic buildings in the downtown area. The Kittery Outlet Shopping area offers great outlet shopping with great stores including; Kittery Trading Post, Barbour, Orvis, Eddie Bauer and Columbia.

ACTIVITIES

There are enough activities, attractions and events in the Portsmouth area to keep visitors there for weeks. The Visitor Center staff has narrowed down a few options that might be great fun for spouse activities:

Harbour Trail Walking Tour - Daily at 10:30 a.m., starting at the Visitor Information Kiosk in Market Square. The tour winds through the city's quaint downtown and waterfront and features history, architecture, tugboats, horticulture, museums and even a submarine. $10 per person; $8 p/p for groups of ten or more.

Fuller Gardens - Open daily 10 - 5. Spectacular array of lovely formal gardens commissioned by Govern Alvan T. Fuller. $7 per person.

Strawbery Banke - Open daily 10 - 5. Famous living history museum featuring restored and furnished buildings where visitors can experience New England life from 1695 through the 1950's. $15 per person.

Seven golf courses are within a half hour's drive of Portsmouth. Challenging but fun courses can be found at the Breakfast Hill Golf Club in Greenland and the Sagamore Golf Club in Hampton. Prices vary.

HARBOR CRUISES

Portsmouth Harbor Cruises and the Isles of Shoals Steamship Company both offer a variety of unforgettable cruise experiences. Attendees can simply choose the scheduled cruise they'd like to enjoy or arrangements can be made directly with the cruise companies for a special Guyette & Schmidt party.

EVENING

Portsmouth is rich in the performing arts, from the award-winning Music Hall to the Pontine Theatre and the Seacoast Repertory Theatre. The magnificent gardens of Prescott Park are the setting for outdoor concerts and plays throughout the summer: Peter Pan and his band of Lost Boys will perform during July 28 - 30.
