SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT 
Long time friend, decoy historian, author and collector Joseph French passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2009.Joe started collecting in 1954, and at one time possessed the largest decoy collection in the country. Joe was a passionate collector who contributed numerous articles in all of the major decoy periodicals, including Decoy Magazine, Hunting and Fishing Collectibles and Waterfowl Carving and Collecting. It is our great honor to announce that Guyette and Schmidt, Inc. will offer Mr. French's collection of duck and shorebird decoys in conjunction with the Midwest Decoy Collector's Association Show, April 22 and 23, 2010. Decoys that will be sold include fine examples by the Mason Decoy Factory, Charles Perdew, Elmer Crowell, Harry Shourds, John Dilley, Leeds, Watson, Cheesman, English, Quillen, Lincoln, Hudson, Barnhart, Sibley, Ward Brothers, Elliston and shorebirds from the Greene rig. There is also a significant group of hollow carved shorebirds by various Nantucket makers.
Joe’s collection of Crowell and Boyd miniatures and a few other items will be sold over the next 3 years by another auction firm. Joe was born in Sioux City, Iowa and is survived by wife Arleen to whom he was married for 64 years, son Joseph Bard French II and daughter Helen Graves. He was blessed with 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. The family wishes any donations be made to the Ward Museum, 909 S. Schumaker Dr, Salisbury, Maryland 21804.
